Olive trees are low maintenance evergreen trees. Plant in full sun with well drained soil in a container or in the ground for temperate climates. Green olives turn black as they ripen. Olives cannot be eaten fresh off the tree, they must be brined first. These trees can produce in our area. We have had trees bare fruit on them while in the garden center.
Arbequina: Zones 2-9. Beautiful as an ornamental evergreen with a bonus of olive fruit. Ripe, black olives are a favorite for pressed extra virgin olive oil.
Wilsonii: Zones 8-11. Beautiful as an ornamental evergreen with the possibility of fruit. A "Semi-fruitless" variety.
